Begin with the business objective
Automation is useful when it reduces repetitive work without losing the reason for doing that work. A reporting request should answer a business question. A campaign change should follow a defined objective. A larger budget should come from spending authority, rather than from a tool's ability to change a field.
For DSS, the starting point is an instruction that identifies the accounts involved, the outcome sought, the work permitted and the limits that apply. Recommendations are decision support. They are not permission to launch a campaign, expand access or raise spending.
This page describes our operating approach and the intended direct-API workflow. The application status explains which parts are still in development.
Where software and AI help
Software can collect consistent reports, check data structures, calculate comparisons and prepare repeatable work. AI assistance can help investigate a question, classify relevant text, draft campaign materials, identify inconsistencies and turn an instruction into a proposed implementation.
These capabilities have different failure modes. A report can use the wrong date window. A conversion metric can be mistaken for verified revenue. An AI draft can introduce an unsupported claim. A technically valid API request can still make the wrong business change. The workflow must check those questions independently.
DSS uses OpenAI and Anthropic tools in its analysis and development work. When an engagement includes AI processing of account-related material, the permitted data and purpose must be covered by the applicable authorization. The AI-processing disclosure describes this external processing and its limits.
A complete operating cycle
Define
Establish the objective, account scope, allowed actions and spending limits. Identify settings or successful campaigns that must be preserved.
Inspect
Review current account state and relevant evidence. Check whether shared budgets, assets, tracking or exclusions would affect more than the immediate object.
Prepare
Build the exact proposed work. Check names, destinations, targeting and numerical limits. Use validation without mutation where the platform supports it.
Execute within authority
Once the production connection is ready, apply only the authorized work. A standing instruction can cover routine operations; it need not require a new human click for every object.
Verify and learn
Read back the result, account for partial failures and document what changed. Assess performance over an appropriate window without assuming that every observed difference was caused by the automation.
Controls the direct service must satisfy
The planned execution service must enforce limits outside the requesting model's judgment. These include exact account scope, operation and time limits, coordinated writes, finite retries, and a way for the responsible operator to stop new submissions.
An uncertain response must be reconciled before a write is repeated. Repeated permission, policy or validation errors should stop the affected work. Changing an identity or creating another job is not an acceptable way to bypass an operating limit.
These are implementation requirements for the service under development, not a claim that a production control system has already been deployed. A stop instruction also cannot undo a change Google has already accepted or recover money already spent.
What automation does not decide on its own
Commercial priorities, material spending expansions, changes to protected campaigns and work outside the agreed scope remain decisions for the authorized business owner. Account administration, payment changes and legal acceptance need their own explicit authority.
Google's ad review, account access and serving rules continue to apply. Automated tools cannot guarantee approval, uninterrupted delivery or a particular return. They must not be used to evade platform restrictions or conceal who is acting on an account.
The application is designed for advertising operations. It is not a tool for deciding an individual's eligibility for credit, employment, insurance, housing or other consequential services.
Make the data path visible
The benefits of automation do not remove the need to explain data processing. Account information may pass through reporting tools, restricted working storage, a reporting database, private report hosting and authorized AI services. Those destinations serve different purposes.
We explain that path on our data-handling page, with retention and request procedures in the privacy policy. New functionality or new data uses require the relevant disclosures and authority before they are introduced.
